Welcome to Beverly Oncology Women's Foundation

Beverly Oncology Women's Foundation (BOWF) is a 501C3 Not-For-Profit community organization dedicated to providing health care services support for all women in our local communities through specialized assistancce programs. BOWF, as of now, focuses on cancer support specifically. Breast cancer, after skin cancer, is the number one deadliest cancer in women.  Other cancers that highly effect women and that are of interest to BOWF are cervical and ovarian cancer. 

BOWF is here to provide screenings and early detection programs for low income patients and those who are unisured. We just completed our first FREE BREAST CANCER SCREENING AND MAMMOGRAM community event on July 24, 2010 here in Montebello which was a huge success! Our next one will be August 28th so please look under events for more information.

In addition to early detection screenings, BOWF is here to provide cancer support services like our new VIVA: Patient Outreach Navigation program further explained below.  We are also planning on offering treatment financing in the near future for those who can not afford health care costs.

VIVA Patient Outreach Navigation

      BOWF is excited to announce a new cancer care program called VIVA Patient Outreach Navigation. VIVA Patient Outreach Navigation is a patient support service in which counselors or navigators guide patients through the cancer care system.

      Often, patients face gaps in service as well as fragmented care. This occurs because not all care resources come from one central place making it difficult for patients to know what is really available to them.

      The navigator helps patients close the gaps in their cancer care service by informing them and guiding them through their available options.

      The program ensures all patients with potential findings of cancer receive navigation services on:

• Early Detection Screenings
• Cancer Education
• Resource Education
• Research Education

      Navigators assist patients by offering a broad array of services which include:

• Help with scheduling and keeping medical appointments
• Arranging follow-up care
• Coordinating and streamlining insurance paperwork
• Identifying local resources and other appropriate support
• Help for identifying and obtaining elder/ child care or transportation

VIVA PLAN BENEFITS

Viva patient Outreach Navigation is on the cutting edge of health care initiatives.

      Increasingly, outreach navigation development and implementation is spreading across the country to wherever cancer is screened, diagnosed, and/or treated.

      Pilot programs show results that support the practice of patient navigation programs.

Navigated patients^1,2:

• Were more likely to obtain recommended breast biopsies  - ( 85.7% of navigated patients compared with 56.6% of non-navigated patients)
• Had their biopsies completed in a more timely fashion 
• (71.4% of biopsies were completed before 4 weeks compared with 38.5% of non-navigated patients)
• Showed improvements in the stage of breast cancer first diagnosed
• Showed increased 5-year survival rates

      These results are due to improved access to cancer screenings and initiation of a patient navigation program
